OTHER MUSINGS / WHAT GOT ME INTO CODING

I like a lot of games. Apart from the reasons that I have already mentioned for the existence of this website, making games is
also a part of the reason why I got into web development.
The reason why I haven't mentioned any here is because I have not been fortunate enough to
play games much.
When flash was still alive, I played a lot of web games. Riddle school, Saw games, Papa's games, virtually
any and all dress up games. Some of my fondest memories belong to online multiplayers - SparkCity World, Habbo,
Club Penguin, Lunaria and especially OurWorld. Flash games were one of my first introduction to computer games.
During the late 2010s, I came to learn about more games. AAA games. GTA V, The Sims, NieR. But I never got into those.
I didn't have the PC for any of that. What I did get into, though, was PUBG. PUBG had Indian youth in a chokehold. I was no different.
A major reason I got into the game was my own FOMO. Most of my classmates were obsessed with it. Not one day would go by
when I didn't hear about PUBG. Plus, I was an insecure girl who wanted to seem cool. That's how I got into PUBG. Then,
political relations between India and China went from bad to worse. That resulted in a banning spree of apps by
the government (because that will fucking show 'em! or something). PUBG was one of them.
Nothing much changed in my life, because I was already losing interest in that game. Life went on.
But starting from 2021, I found
myself enraptured by Genshin Impact. It was the first game that fascinated me in earnest. It was accessible and had a very
evident anime style. I was anime fanatic even then, so, Genshin Impact was something I just had to try. What followed
was an intense hyperfixation. It was the first thing that got me to be awake till 5 A.M. just so I could complete
the story. It went on for months and months.
The rest of my story with Genshin is not very positive. I'll hold it for now.
Still, though Genshin is perhaps one of my most hated games now, it once inspired me to make games myself. Genshin got me into
coding and into internet communities. It's a very long story. And admittedly, I'm giving Genshin more credit than it
deserves. Anime and my obsession with art also got me into more niche internet communities before and after Genshin did.
But, as I said Genshin did get me into coding.
I got my gaming laptop in February of 2024. I got to play Stardew Valley, Hades, Undertale, Hollow Knight and Spiritfarer.
All which I have enjoyed very much.
I have not been interested in AAA games in a long time. I did like watching Yakuza playthroughs though. In October, Disco Elysium
happened.
It was a game that I hunted when I was still in the middle of playing Spiritfarer. What I
really wanted was a
cozy game. However, I wasn't able to find much. But Disco Elysium was in front of the Steam page all proud and persistent.
I decided to give it a go after learning about its pretty unique mechanisms. I was not left disappointed.

DE just has something that just binds you to it. With no exaggeration, I believe that Disco Elysium is one of the best games of
all time.
Learning about how it was created and about the creators themselves both excited me and saddened me. However, the feeling
of creating something so unheard of ignited something in me to create. Something, somehow.
I think every creative should try Disco Elysium once in their lifetime. It's a game made with excellent writing skills,
art skills, coding skills, etc. It's a game that will keep you motivated for months on end. And it has only
inspired me to keep working on whatever that I am working on. Which includes this website.
There's so much more to speak about Disco Elysium but I will be writing about in some other
part of this website. And that's it.
